Another successful diversity day for East Renfrewshire

More than 300 pupils from Our Lady of the Missions, St Cadoc', St Claire's, Calderwood Lodge and St Joseph's Primary schools attended East Renfrewshsire Diversity Day 2018 earlier this month.

The event, now in its eighth year, allows young people to visit exhibitions of faith and culture, participate in a diversity themed art competition and develop team building skills through sporting and dance activities.

The activities are designed to allow the young people to learn about the things they have in common as well as the things which make people different.

Award ceremonies also took place during school assemblies in each of the participating schools.

The day is organised through a collaboration of partners including representatives of Diversity ER, East Renfrewshire Corporate Equalities Unit, East Renfrewshire Faith Forum, East Renfrewshire Leisure Trust, Maccabi GB Scotland, Glasgow Jewish Representative Council and Woodfarm Education Centre. Foundation Scotland sponsored the event.

Grace Brookmyre, a member of the organising committee said: “This is the biggest Diversity Day held in East Renfrewshire to date with the largest cluster – that of St Ninian’s High School taking part.

“Together we celebrate the best of learning, living and working in East Renfrewshire with its huge range of religious and cultural diversity.

“Thank you to all the schools and community organisations who have lent their support and to Foundation Scotland for their continued sponsorship.”
