The men responsible then got into a 17 plate grey coloured BMW 3 series and made off.

On police arrival they discovered the 37 year-old man injured, and he was taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they treated him for minor injuries and he was later released.

Around 7.30pm, police were alerted to a BMW car on fire at Linn Park Golf Club. It was the BMW involved in this incident which was bearing false plates and had previously been reported stolen from the Giffnock area.

Detective Sergeant Craig Warren from Greater Glasgow Division said: “Extensive enquiries are continuing into this incident and officers have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and studying CCTV footage to identify the four men responsible.

“We believe that this was a targeted attack. This is a busy area and I would urge any witnesses to the incident, who have not yet spoken to officers to come forward as they may have vital information that will assist our investigation.

“I would also urge anyone who saw a grey coloured BMW 3 series being driven through the Battlefield or Linn Park areas to contact us too.”
