Appeal to Herald readers from top cop

DI Greig Wilkie has a full investigation team based in Kirkintilloch police office.

He has made it clear no stone is being left unturned in the search for the man who opened fire on his victim as scores of children were leaving St Helen’s Primary School at the beginning of the September holiday weekend.

He told the Herald: “I am determined to catch the person responsible – but I’m appealing to anyone who may have any suspicion, any little detail, to get in touch, to help me do so as quickly as possible.

“It might be something that didn’t mean anything at the time, or which doesn’t even seem important, but when added to information we have already could make a difference.”

Area Commander Chief Inspector Craig added: “We know the distress this has caused local parents and children, and we have done everything possible to reassure the community.

“The education department and social work have been first class too – the cooperation and response has been excellent.”

He added: “When you consider what could have happened it is all the more important that anyone who has any information gets in touch.”

DI Wilkie said: “If you suspect something, or aren’t sure about some detail, just phone me.

“If it turns out to be unimportant, I don’t mind. I’d rather consider every possibility, and listen to what anyone who thinks they may remember something has to say.”

The prime suspect in the shooting is 5ft to 10ins, white, and wore hi-vis jacket and trousers – and used a silver-coloured handgun in his murder bid.

The area around the school – for example Pentland Drive and Dornoch Place – is obviously of particular interest to police.

And they’re particularly interested to hear from anyone who knows anything of the burned-out Volkswagen car (pictured) found near the scene.
