Apprentices set their sights on a career in finance

Greg Douglas Anderson, Christopher Milne and Monisha Sandhu from Bishopbriggs Academy, and Zubair Sarwar from St Ninian’s High School are among 17 students to have completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in Financial Services at City of Glasgow College.

The new work-based learning course enables pupils to spend time at the college and with local employers gaining industry recognised qualifications and building experience in the financial services sector.

Completing the Foundation Apprenticeship means Natalie and Darren can now go on to continue their studies at college or university, complete a Modern Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.

Maxine McClintock, Finance & Business Services Project Manager at City of Glasgow College, said: “Connor and the other apprentices have shown some great qualities including teamwork, maturity and the ability to bring knowledge and practice together which will stand them in good stead.

“Foundation Apprenticeships can help young people to hone the skills that employers tell us they are looking for. Whether they continue in education, go on to complete a Modern Apprenticeship or go straight into work these skills will help to give them a head start in their career.”

Diane Greenlees, Head of Foundation Apprenticeships at Skills Development Scotland said: “Foundation Apprenticeships introduce young people to the world of work and equips them with the skills and experience to gain accelerated entry onto a Modern Apprenticeship or continue their studies at college or university.

“The first young people to complete a Foundation Apprenticeship in financial services represent a key milestone in the development of this new work-based learning programme.

“I’d like to pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of young people, colleges, schools and employers taking part.”
