Armed police seal off Govanhill street

A southside street was sealed off yesterday (Monday) as armed police hunted for a missing man.

Officers in full riot gear were seen surrounding and then entering a tenement building on Boyd Street, Govanhill carrying guns and shields.

Police Scotland confirmed that the incident was related to a missing person inquiry for Jonathan Kelly (33).

Officers stood down after 5pm, and a spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the ongoing operation in Boyd Street has now concluded.

“Around 1.20pm, officers received information that a missing man, Jonathan Kelly, was seen in the area. Officers immediately responded to the location and conducted a search to try and locate him whilst ensuring there was no danger posed to members of the public.

“Police Scotland can confirm the man is still missing and enquiries are continuing.

“Officers would like to extend their thanks to the local community and the public for their co-operation and support throughout this incident.”
