Ashpark Primary School pupils fish for fun

Children from Ashpark Primary School have been casting their nets wide with a trip to Carbeth Fishery in Stirlingshire.

The 12 pupils from P6 and 7 got a chance to try their hand at trout fishing – not the usual occupation for a bunch of 10-12 year olds.

After a few lessons on casting and baiting the youngsters got the opportunity to put their skills to the test and were delighted with the results, landing nine trout in total.

Those who were successful shared and everyone went home with some fish for tea.

The outing was organised in part by SU Scotland, a Christian charity working in and with schools.

ML Stone, who works for SU Scotland and helped lead the excursion said: “This is the second year we’ve taken children to the fishery and it’s lovely to see them have new experiences, make new friends, work together and encourage one another. Everyone had a great time, regardless of whether they caught fish or not.”
