Attempted abduction on Kenmuir Street

POLICE are appealing for information after a boy was abducted in the Pollokshields area.

The boy (10) was walking on Kenmuir Street when he was approached by a man who grabbed him and dragged him to a back court of nearby flats, on Wednesday around 3.10pm.

However the boy managed to escape and ran back to Kenmuir Street and sought help from a passer-by.

He returned home and alerted his family who called the police.

The boy was uninjured but upset by his ordeal.

Police described the suspect as of south east Asian appearance, 5ft 4in to 5ft 6in in height, aged 30 to 35 years and unshaven.

He was wearing dark jogging bottoms, a hooded top and a baseball cap.

The local area commander at Gorbals police office, chief inspector Hazel Knight, said: “At the moment we are trying to establish whether the boy involved was known to the man and approached intentionally or if this was a random incident.

“Specially-trained officers are speaking to him and his family to get as much detail as possible, as well as checking local CCTV and carrying out door to door enquiries.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the man the boy said he alerted in Kenmuir Street.

“He was with a young boy on a bike who was wearing a local primary school uniform.

“There will be extra officers in the area to provide public reassurance and I would ask that anyone who recognises the description of the man, or with information they believe may help our enquiry, to speak to them or contact the poice via the non-emergency number, 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where details can be given in confidence.”
