Azerbaijanis learning lessons about schools

Senior officials of the country’s Ministry of Education enjoyed a tour of the new school as part of a wider visit focussing on Scotland’s approach to building new schools.

Councillor Eric Gotts, Convener of East Dunbartonshire’s Education Committee, met the delegation and was delighted to show them around the new primary school on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal.

He met Mr Anar Akhundov, Director of Capital Reconstruction within the School Buildings and Procurement Department; Mr Orkhan Mustafayev, the Special Projects Coordinator; and Mr Emil Majidov, a ministry consultant.

Councillor Gotts said: “We are very proud of Lairdsland Primary School and its status as a national blueprint design for schools across the country and it was an honour to show it off to our international visitors.

“They were impressed with what they saw during the tour of the building and I hope that we have been able to leave them with a positive impression of how education is delivered to the young people of East Dunbartonshire.”

Mr Orkhan Mustafayev said: “The purpose of this trip was to find out more about the fantastic Schools for the Future programme here in Scotland as we are interested in learning more about the community involvement and how the development of these brand new schools provide financial savings.

“We have enjoyed our visit to Lairdsland Primary School and we are very impressed with the design and the materials used in the building.”
