Backing gran by raising money for Cancer Research
Coalburn teenaGer Kristi Aikman (15) wanted to join in the battle against cancer as her grandmother, Mary Struthers, is fighting the disease, and her friends rallied round too.
Kristi, Ellis Burnside (14), Hannah Mitchell (14) and Courtney Meikle (15), from Coalburn, and Jennifer Dyet (14) from Lesmahagow, organised a Wear Pink day at Lesmahagow High and raised £346. Jennifer made a further £350 last Thursday, busking with her saxophone at Tesco while the others collected donations. On Sunday, all five took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life in Glasgow, and they expect to have raised around £1800.
