Bad weather stalls bin lorries

East Renfrewshire council has asked residents not to call to report a missed bin collection this week.

Bin lorries were at a standsill yesterday (Thursday) and were unable to do their usual pick-up rounds after snow and ice rendered roads inaccessible.

They expect to be able to pick-up today but only domestic waste, the grey bins. Food and garden waste, in brown bins that are usualloy uplifted on a Friday, will be collected next Friday instead.

A council statement said: “We are prioritising our bin collections and will be out on Friday, January 30, to collect the domestic waste bins that we were unable to collect on Thursday due to the poor weather conditions. This means the brown bins (food and garden waste) will not be collected on Friday (today). They will instead be picked up on the next scheduled collection day. All other collection services will continue as normal. Please do not call or email to report a missed bin.”
