The Southside Wannabees project – promoting the area’s fresh musical talent – hosts a fundraising event next week, with the money raised going to the Enya Doohan Appeal.

All proceeds will go to the intensive care unit at the Southern General hospital, in memory of five-year-old Enya, from Clarkston, who died there suddenly in 2008.

The Doohan family and supporters have raised a whopping £58,000 for charity – and now it’s turn of the southside’s finest, who appear at Pivo Pivo on Wednesday (April 17).

Organising the Revolution gig is media student Christina Doherty, who told The Extra: “I was so inspired by little Enya’s family’s previous efforts to raise money in her memory that I decided to put on an event of my own and get local bands involved.

“I love music, and since there has been hardly any local shows aimed at supporting the amazing talent on offer in the southside, I decided to take the plunge and organise an event that promotes real creativity, while raising money for a good cause at the same time.”

Headlining are Glasgow group The Toi – currently working on their debut album with producer Nick Brine, whose previous credits include Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, and The Darkness – followed by singer-songwriter Myles Leggatt (also a member of recent Scene star Penny Black’s band).

Southside group Ravena, an alternative rock band, have been making waves on YouTube recently with their single Michael (We Really Should Go), as have The Apparells – and both are playing on Wednesday.

The charity gig will also feature Motherwell college graduate Carly McLaughlin – a singer, according to Christina, whose “sheer musical talent is a sight to see”.

Revolution starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday at city centre venue Pivo Pivo. More info is available at the Southside Wannabees Facebook page.
