Bank chief to visit school design students

Victoria Cleland, the current chief cashier of the Bank of England will be visiting an East Renfrewshire school as part of a tour of Scotland.

The woman who signs the banknotes will visit students of graphic communications and design and manufacture at Eastwood high school, giving talks on the challenges of marrying design features with the practicalities and security elements of producing the banknotes.

The school’s head teacher Stuart Maxwell said it was “an honour” to host such a prestigious visit, adding: “This speaks directly to the two elements of the curriclulum covering design and manufacture.”

The Bank is also seeking nominations for a new character​ for the £20 note, the category being deceased of the visual arts; for example, architects, artists, ceramicists, craftspeople and designers.
