Bank staff left shaken after robber steals four figure sum

A bank robber made off with a four figure sum after he demanded cash from two frightened female bank tellers at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Burnside, Rutherglen.

The man went into the branch with a scarf covering his face and a hoodie over his head around 3.40pm yesterday afternoon (August 2).

Detective Sergeant Martin McKendrick from Cambuslang CID is appealing for anyone who may have seen the man prior to the robbery or afterwards to contact him.

He said: “The suspect made off from the bank along Stonelaw Road heading towards the local Tesco.

“He is white, of slight to medium build and approximately 5 ft 8 in height. He was wearing what appeared to be a scarf across his face and the hood from a top up, a distinctive bright orange jacket that had a white logo on the sleeve and blue jeans.

“We are checking CCTV at the moment to see whether he had been in the vicinity of the bank prior to the robbery but in meantime would ask anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery – who may have seen him loitering or acting suspiciously, to contact police.”

No one was injured but the two female staff aged 30 and 57 were very frightening by the experience.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Cambuslang CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
