Bar ‘flicks’ set to be a big hit in Shawlands

This week saw the launch of the southside’s first pop-up cinema. Monday night is movie night at Jayz bar in Shawlands which will be a regular film slot .

The weekly event, known as Movietastic Monday, is free and promises to play host to a wide selection of movie genres.

Movietastic Monday is expected to be a sure hit with Southsiders with films such as Dirty Dancing, Ghost, The Breakfast Club to the scarier Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween screening over the coming weeks.

To cater for the pop-up cinema, the bottom area of the bar will be sectioned and movies beamed onto the walls.

To add to the experience, Jayz movie platters with hot dogs, nachos and popcorn will be on offer, and table service for drinks so that movie-goers can enjoy a refreshment without leaving their seats.

The decision to launch the movie night, followed a private one-off showing for a nursery.

More than 120 staff and pupils at Deanpark nursery were treated to a free movie day.

The pub’s assistant manaager Pauline Cameron said: “The staff and children had such great fun at the session that we knew we had to explore the idea of introducing a movie night to our customers.

“We are considering family movie sessions during the school breaks and, of course, a special Christmas movie.”

“Listings can be found on our website and a section for customers to suggest movies they would like to see at our pop up cinema.”
