Bearsden coach hopes to help create Davis Cup legacy

A coach at a tennis club in Bearsden has been picked to deliver a coaching course for young tennis players aimed at building on great Britain's Davis Cup success.

Alasdair Davie. head coach at Westerton Tennis Club, is among 1,000 coaches selected by the LTA to deliver six weeks of free coaching to 10,000 youngsters under the Davis Cup Legacy Tennis for Kids Programme.

The classes at Westerton will on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 5pm and 6pm from April 19 to May 24.

Children taking part must be aged between five and eight and new to tennis and will receive a free racket on completing the course.

And to encourage the youngsters to maintain a new-found interest in the sport a half-price reduction on follow-on coaching is also on offer for these players.

Alasdair recently joined some of the other coaches for a training course at which he was mentored in how to deliver the course by former British number one players Greg Rusedski and Annabel Croft.

He said it was a fantastic opportunity and it was great to see how positive and enthusiastic they were about the project and growing the game at grass roots.
