With the love affair with ‘selfies’ continuing to grow - West College Scotland wanted to get in on the action by asking both current and future students - what does your future selfie look like?
Martin Hewitt from Bearsden has already posted his and he said: “My interest in design sparked from renovating a Glasgow based tenement home. I got such a buzz from seeing something transpire from what was initially just a vision into something tangible and useable.”
He added: “During this time I was studying for my HNC in Social Care where I gained a work placement with Capability Scotland - an organisation who support adults who have learning and mobility difficulties. Working with adults who have accessibility needs made me appreciate I take my independence for granted, that’s when my interest in design developed to focus on the adaption of space.
“With a particular interest in bathrooms I decided to get some work experience with a bathroom fitting company which subsequently led to me completing an NVQ in Domestic Plumbing and Heating.
“I’m now well into my educational journey studying NC Interior Architecture, which will help develop my drawing an interior design skills – an integral piece to the puzzle before building my own bespoke bathroom design company.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying the course, it’s is not just an academic journey, it’s personal journey - you feel like you’re coming home as you get to meet and engage with people who all have the same interest as you.
“I’ve never thought of myself as a great artist so the fact that we learn to use 3D modelling software is fantastic - using technology like this has given be a lot of confidence.”
Strike a pose and get snapping a selfie, post it to one of the West College Scotland’s Facebook campus pages stating what your career ambitions are and remember to hashtag #wcsselfie.
