Better Together meet and greet in Mearns

Politicians from all sides of the divide were out in force at Broom shops, Newton Mearns on Saturday to promote the Better Together message.

East Renfrewshire councillors Ian McAlpine, Barbara Grant and Jim Swift were joined by No volunteer John McCafferty in a bid to get their campaign message across at local level.

Councillor McAlpine, campaign co-ordinator for Better Together Eastwood, told The Extra: “People were delighted to see the street stall out on Saturday morning as they were not convinced by Alex Salmond’s recent TV performance and did not have any confidence that he had clear enough answers about the economy and the pound.

“We had a great response from local people who were not convinced about the arguments to break up Britain and felt Scotland should stay in the UK.”
