Tony McLaren, national coordinator for Breathing Space, was one of five staff members at NHS 24’s Cardonald contact centre to be presented with a Volunteer Award by chief executive John Turner.

The 54-year-old — who competed the cycle from Fort William to Glasgow, taking in support centres along the way to highlight the support available — said: “The simple message we wanted to take across Scotland was that mental health is everyone’s business.”
