Big-hearted bobbies saddle up for charity

The 12 big-hearted boys in blue are cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Sunday, 
September 11 as part of the Pedal for Scotland challenge.

All the cash raised will go towards Buttercups House 
respite centre.

Community police officer Sergeant Scott Wandrum said: “I, along with a number of other officers who work in East Dunbartonshire were inspired by the work of 
Buttercups House and the much needed care and support the staff provide to those that need it the most.

“By arranging this charity cycle ride I hope we are able to raise enough money that can be used to support the children and their families who use this amazing facility.”

He joked on the group’s justgiving page that everyone was in “peak physical condition after abstaining from cakes, sweets and juice.

He said: “There are a few concerns, mostly relating to the narrow looking saddles, however it is hoped that a great day will be had.”

Area Commander, Chief Inspector Craig Smith, is also getting in on the act.

He said: “I am exceptionally proud our local officers have identified a charity to raise funds for that provides such a valuable service to East Dunbartonshire communities.

“I am delighted to fully support them. They have 
also managed to convince me to join them for the cycle!”

Buttercups House opened two years ago, involving East Dunbartonshire Council and the Mungo Foundation.
