The traditional Riding of the Marches made sure it was a Super Sunday in the town with over 100 riders taking part.

Alan was delighted to be sashed by Ann Matheson while Denis Lavery was given the task of wishing the many riders ‘Safe Out, Safe In’.

And, despite a quick shower in the afternoon, the weather was kind for the most part throughout the day.

Jimmy Ritchie, from Biggar Cornets Club, was pleased with the turnout and hoped for more of the same throughout the week.

He said: “The whole day was first class. It was raining for a time when we came out of the church after the inaugural service but that was it.

“We had 105 riders in total taking part in the Marches which is tremendous and there were no injuries or casualties which is always good to see. I’m hoping that we have a really good week and that everyone enjoys themselves.”
