In last year’s washout summer, Biggar was one of the few shows to go ahead, but without the cattle or the light horses.

But all are back this year and, given the great weather this month, the farmers should have their work done and be out in force.

And so should the public.

“We like to say this is one of the best one-day shows in Scotland,” said Farmers Club President Jim Gibb.

“There is something for everyone. That is the message we like to put across.”

As well as the chance to see some of the best livestock around competing for trophies, visitors can admire the baking and handcrafts on display in the industrial tent.

They can chat to craftworkers and browse for unique bargains in the huge crafts marquee.

And they can pick up top quality local meat and preserves in the foodfair shed.

Fun will include tug-of-war contests, games for youngsters, and a full funfair and wide range of trade stands and displays of rural crafts.

Biggar Showfield is open from 8am onwards, and admission is £8 for adults, £5 concessions and under 16s free.
