Biggar to Edinburgh bus timetable furore

A CONTROVERSIAL timetable change to the 100 bus run from Biggar to Edinburgh – launched this week – has been slammed by local users of the service.

Heather Docker, who has used the service daily for eight years, said that putting back the bus’s arrival in Biggar High Street, from its Dumfries starting point, from 8.45am to 8.58am meant local school pupils now couldn’t reach Biggar High on time.

And commuters going to work in Edinburgh for a 10am start were out of luck too as the bus didn’t reach Lothian Road – where most people got off – until around 10.10am.

“There are a good half dozen school pupils who use this bus,” Heather said. “They now have no chance of getting to school for starting just before 9am.

“It’s also a major problem for workers trying to get into Edinburgh for 10am. I bought a car in November and I’ve told people who wait at the Biggar bus stop every morning that I’ll drive them into work instead.”

An SPT spokesman said: “It is extremely difficult to satisfy every single passenger. However we have strived to ensure that the timetable includes a bus that arrives in Edinburgh for 8.30am, allowing commuters to be at their desks for 9am.”
