Biggar’s Bob Kane won’t be eating 1912 Easter Eggs!

A LOT of folk like ‘three-minute’ boiled egg for their breakfast but there’s a Clydesdale man who’s got two which are 102 YEARS old!

Biggar resident Bob Kane was recently rummaging about family keepsakes at his home in Sillarknowe when he came across a pair of personal mementoes which go back a long, long way in his family’s history.

With Easter fast approaching, the items the 70-year-old retired panel beater re-discovered recalled an earlier celebration of that time of year... from the Easter of 1912!

Bob said: “In the old days, ordinary families like ours didn’t just go out to the shops and buy a chocolate Easter egg – you made your own by simply boiling a couple of ordinary, real eggs and then decorating them.

“Back in 1912 my late mother and her twin sister did just that and, somehow, these decorated eggs, signed and dated by both of them, survived to this day.”
