Birthday cheque for Norah

A KIND-HEARTED Condorrat man has given up gifts for his 80th birthday in favour of donations to Strathcarron Hospice.

Alastair Peatrie, who is known locally as vice-chairman of Condorrat Community Council, turned 80 on May 1.

He celebrated the landmark birthday with a bash at Cadder Freestone Social Club in Bishopbriggs and instead of gifts, he asked friends and family for a cash donation for Strathcarron Hospice.

The hospice has a special place in Alastair’s heart as staff there cared for his wife Norah who sadly passed away from breast cancer at the age of 75.

Since her death five years ago, Alastair has donated to the hospice but he was proud to present a cheque for well over £500 on his most recent visit.

Alastair, who has four children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, said: “My late wife was looked after by staff at the hospice. The work the hospice does is magnificent and I want to thank everyone who helped me celebrate my birthday and donated to this cause.”
