Bishopbriggs is setting for new novel

Author Helen MacKinven has created a fictional town known as Shawbriggs which is based on Bishopbriggs for her latest novel, Buy Buy Baby.

Published by Cranachan Publishing it is due for release on July 7 and is set in and around the fictional suburb on the outskirts of Glasgow,

Buy Buy Baby is packed full of bitchy banter, as it follows the bittersweet quest of two very different women united by the same goal – they desperately want a baby.

By turns moving and funny, the novel is a story of life, loss and longing. The two main characters, Carol and Julia, couldn’t be any more different and yet they share the same burning desire to fill a baby-shaped hole in their lives.

Helen said: “On a personal level, I was very lucky to become pregnant easily when I decided to have a family and I had no major problems with the births of my two sons. But knowing how much they changed my life, for the better, I wondered how I would feel if I had experienced fertility issues or my child had died.

Managing Director of Cranachan, Anne Glennie, said, “We’re thrilled to be launching a thought-provoking and entertaining book”.

Buy Buy Baby will go on general release with a launch date with Waterstones at Behind the Wall, Falkirk on July 7 at 7pm. The book is already available online for pre-order.
