Bogus crime awareness

Police in Cumbernauld joined up with other agencies for a day of action aimed at raising awareness of doorstep crime.

Representatives from organisations including Cumbernauld police, Asda, North Area Crime Prevention Panel, CACE and the Scottish Hydro were out in force last week to give advice on the issue.

As part of days of action held across the country, a stall was set up in the town centre Asda on Friday, September 13.

Hundreds of leaflets, stickers and booklets were handed out to members of the public as part of the nationwide campaign by Police Scotland, Beat Bogus Callers.

Beat Bogus Callers has been running for the last two weeks and is the first campaign of its kind since the creation of the single service on April 1, 2013.

Radio advertising will be used to boost the campaign and to advise people against opening their door to unexpected callers set on targeting those they perceive to be vulnerable.

Booklets and posters offer advice on the precautions to take and what people should do if they become suspicious.
