Bollywood dream come true for Eastwood girl

An East Renfrewshire schoolgirl has been chosen to show off her Bollywood dancing skills to audiences from Edinburgh and beyond.

Bhavna Mehta, a fifth year pupil at Eastwood High, has landed a role in a major Bollywood show at this year’s Edinburgh Military Tattoo - a show which attracts audiences from around the globe.

Bhavna and big sister Pooja - a former Eastwood head girl - had to audition for their roles in Ek Prem Kahani - a Bollywood Love Story.

The girls beat off competition from across Scotland and will now join around 50 amateurs and 12 professionals from an Indian dance company to perform the short routine.

The Tattoo taster - running throughout the month of August - is a preview to the full world premiere on August 30 at the Edinburgh Mela - a multicultural festival to rival the Glasgow Mela taking place this Sunday.

Eastwood High head teacher Stuart Maxwell said “Congratulations to Bhavna who will be dancing alongside professional Bollywood dancers. Watch out for her on television.”
