A spokesperson said: “The Forum is immensely grateful to be chosen as Spar’s charity this year as we work to improve our community. The Forum is a millennium baby and its original purpose was to improve the Shopping Centre and indeed the first thing we did was provide the benches which are still fixed in the Centre, followed by the benches near the Health Centre.

“We widened our aims to other environmental and community concerns, running the Gala, the Christmas event and for some years summer games and swimming clubs.

“The Forum provided the Oak Road play and skate park and last year the revamped Broom Road park with continued responsibilities for the insurance and some maintenance in these parks.

“We are delighted to have Spar’s continuing support in our community efforts. Spar, in the person of Jen Stewart and her colleagues, has always been a generous supporter of the Forum’s events and we are grateful for a long and rewarding partnership with a company that is in the heart of our community.”
