Boy attacked by couple as he gets off train

A 15-year-old boy has been attacked from behind and stamped on as he got off a train.

The teenager was punched, assaulted and robbed as he got off a train in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, on Saturday night.

He was with a group of friends at around 11.30pm when he got off the Glasgow Central train at Patterton.

Police say he was punched from behind and then stamped on as he lay on the station platform.

He suffered facial injuries and a wound to his eye as well as having his phone stolen in the attack. However, he did not need hospital treatment.

Those believed to be responsible are described as being a man and woman in their 40s. British Transport Police have launched a probe into the incident.

Detective constable Ryan Tierney, said: “This would have been a busy service and I am aware there was an altercation between the group of younger boys and a group of older people shortly before the assault took place at Patterton.

“Anyone who was on the train and has information regarding those involved who remained on until it arrived at Neilston at 11.40pm is urged to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
