A Sainsbury’s customer from Shawlands, Glasgow, bagged more than he bargained for when he discovered a rare Golden Nose hidden amongst the millions of Red Noses available from Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.

Twelve Golden Noses have been hidden in surprise bags across the country. Owen Giffen, 9, hunted down one of the nine Golden Noses hidden in Sainsbury’s stores.

Now he and his family will be among the VIP guests at the stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London, in a musical directed by Academy awardwinner Sam Mendes.

Owen will go backstage, meet the cast, enjoy hospitality in the Royal Box including an afternoon tea from One Aldwych, stay overnight at Every Hotel, Leicester Square, and receive a golden goody bag of free gifts.

Owen said: “I opened the bag and noticed that my Red Nose was gold – I can’t believe I’ve won a prize and I’ve managed to find one of the special noses. I can’t wait to visit London and see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Pete Ward, Comic Relief manager for Sainsbury’s said: “This is the first time ever that the Red Noses have been sold in surprise bags. Together with Comic Relief we thought we could have a bit of fun with them by hiding these extra special Golden Noses amongst the millions. I’m delighted that Owen is so excited to have won gold and I’ve no doubt he will have an extremely memorable experience when he comes to London to enjoy his prize.”
