British Empire Medal for Little Haven’s Jessie Griffin

But they both felt that such support should be available closer to home and that led to the birth of the Little Haven in Forth.

Now Jessie Griffin’s work with the Little Haven has been recognised.

She has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours List.

“It is quite exciting,” said Jessie this week.

“It is good for the village and goodfor the Little Haven.”

And she added: “You have no idea the phone calls I have had; it is just fantastic.”

She is also tickled at the comments – hundreds of them – posted on social network pages.

One called her “the nicest wee woman in the Forth”.

“I’m delighted to receive this award,” said Jessie. “I did not expect recognition for my charity work.

“I am from a family who have always helped.”
