Bumper grant for two Clydesdale groups

Backed by The Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund until April 2016, the project will deliver 168 volunteering sessions on a wide range of environmental and conservation projects such as path building and invasive species removal throughout the Clyde and Avon Valleys area.

Many of the free sessions are open to local communities and will take place on sites owned or managed by CAVLP partners including the Scottish Wildlife Trust Falls of Clyde, New Lanark, South Lanarkshire Council, and Scottish Natural Heritage Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserves. Other community groups who are involved in the CAVLP programme could also benefit if they have a suitable project.

“The focus of the programme will be to develop the skills, confidence and health of volunteers and a range of events will be held with some for everyone to participate in and others focused on engaging individuals with support needs,” said Niall McShannon, Managing Director of CCI.

“There will also be opportunities for volunteers to undertake formal training certificates in disciplines from chainsaw skills to pesticide applications.”

“We are thrilled to announce another round of environmental and conservation volunteering projects, especially following the success of last year’s evaluation,” said Kirsten Robb, CAVLP Community Engagement Officer.

“The sessions will give individuals the skills and confidence in contributing to future community projects.”
