Burns Club hold annual general meeting

The annual general meeting of Cumbernauld and District Burns Club took place on Friday, March 7 when outgoing President, Finlay Bruce, welcomed all cronies present.

Reports from the president, secretary, treasurer and the auditors confirm the club to be numerically and financially sound.

The following office bearers and committee members were elected for the period 2014-2016.

President, Calum Cormack; vice president, Willie Barr; secretary, John Graham; treasurer, Tom McIlroy; membership secretary, Tom Myles; committee members - Bill Mejury, Craig McWilton, David Mooney, Donald Smith, Duncan Weir. Ex-officio - Immediate Past President, Finlay Bruce.

The regular meeting then followed when new president, Calum Cormack, welcomed all cronies and guests.

Following the enjoyable meal supplied by Alex Graham Caterers, two new members were admitted before all present sat back to enjoy the evening’s entertainment.

Cronie Jack McKinney spoke on ‘Burns and Politics’ and cronie Roy Scott assisted by cronie Dick Duncan, elaborated on ‘Burns and the Medical Profession’.

A standing ovation was their reward for their eloquency.

David Boyle, Ian Duncan and The Cuillins provided the musical contribution and Peter Capaldi was his usual brilliant self with his ‘Address to the De’il’.

Honorary piper Duncan Drew entertained all present with his high standard of piping.

New member Chick Scott amused the cronies with his anecdotes and song in an abbreviated ‘Sangs and Clatter’.

Vice President Willie Barr proposed a well received vote of thanks and the meeting ended in the traditional manner with the singing of ‘The Star’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
