Busby kids celebrate Scottish culture

The whole school went on an exploration of the David Livingstone Centre, with classes taking turns on the field trip to learn about Dr Livingstone’s life and work, and what it would have been like to go to school during the Victorian era.

Meanwhile, back in Busby, classmates were studying Scottish literature, ranging from poems and songs by Robert Burns to Geordie’s Minging Medicin (a Scots take on Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine).

The week ended with a celebration attended by parents and pupils, and head teacher Sharon Hunter said: “Our Scottish Literature and Culture assembly was a resounding success.

“The children showed a wealth of talent in reciting, singing and playing instruments and one star pupil even played Highland Laddie on the bagpipes.

“The Scots language is an important part of Curriculum for Excellence and the children at Budby love to explore the different poems, stories and songs.

“Our celebration was made all the more special by Mr John Carmichael entertaining the audience by playing his accordian.”
