Busby: taking the hotseat at Holyrood

Busby Primary pupils bagged a place in the finals of a schools quiz on all things European, at the home of Scottish government at Holyrood in Edinburgh.

The team was one of 30 taking part in the Euroquiz with questions as diverse as: In which European city could you find the oldest amusement park in the world?; Which European country has the zloty as its currency?, and Do you know when the European Coal and Steel Community was founded?

While Team East Ren weren’t overall winners, they were praised for getting as far as they did —and got a chance to walk among and see for themselves the corridors of power in the capital.

A Holyrood spokesman said: “All of the final participants had to make it through regional heats, by local authority, prior to the final at the Parliament.”

Elaine Smith MSP, deputy presiding officer of the Scottish Parliament and quizmaster of the 2015 Euroquiz final said: “It has been another exciting and action-packed Euroquiz final.

“All of the teams from right across Scotland who have taken part in Euroquiz 2015 should feel proud of their achievements. It’s wonderful that Scotland’s children are growing up with such incredible knowledge of Europe and the wider world.”

The deputy presiding officer added: “Euroquiz is a fun and engaging way for children to learn about Europe and Scotland’s place in the world.”

The Euroquiz final was also streamed live last week(May 13) from the Parliament’s website at scottishparliament.tv.
