The businesses want to make sure customers know that, and Scottish Gas Network have promised that access to them will be maintained.

The closure, from 8am tomorrow, is for a £26,000 upgrade of the gas mains.

The existing metal gas mains and services in Hall Place are being replaced with modern plastic polyethylene pipe.

“During the first two weeks of the project, it will be necessary to temporarily close Hall Place to traffic for everyone’s safety,” said SGN.

“A signed diversion will be in place in both directions via Gallowhill Road, Hope Street, Bloomgate, High Street, St Leonard Street and Kildare Road.

“We will then reopen Hall Place and complete our works under temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction of Kildare Road with St Leonard Street.

“Access to homes, shops and businesses will be maintained at all times.”

And access to Lanark Memorial Hall from Gallowhill Road would continue as usual.

SGN Team Manager Geoff Storrie said: “We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while we carry out our essential works.

“We will do everything we can to minimise disruption and complete our works as quickly as possible.

“The new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

“This means that when the work is complete, local residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and secure gas supply for years to come.”
