Butcher’s sausages are a sizzling success

An award winning butcher will represent Scotland in the national final of a barbecue competition in Coventry.

S Collins & Son Butchers, of Muirhead, won at the regional final in Perth with their traditional pork sausage and speciality chicken burger.

Stewart Collins said: “It’s important for me and for our customers to get this recognition. They’ve not long found out that we won in the regional and the feedback has all been really positive.”

The award winning pork sausage is one of the shop’s best sellers and is freshly made by hand every day. Collins’ chicken burger is a new product for the summer season, using Scottish chickens with a sweet spice flavouring.

To prepare for the final at the end of the month he said they will do “nothing different to what we always do”.

They are now getting fired up to take on their counterparts from across the UK in the final, when national winners in each of six categories will emerge.

One of them will also have the ultimate honour of being crowned overall supreme champion by the Q Guild, which represents 110 award-winning butchers all over the country.

National chairman, Alnwick butcher Mark Turnbull, said: “Entries have increased this year, such is the prestige of winning a Q Guild BBQ championship.”

The national final takes place at The Windmill Village Hotel, Coventry, on Sunday, May 31.
