Butterfly and Pig flies south to historic pub

Bar and restaurant The Butterfly and the Pig has announced plans to take over Shawlands institution The Corona.

The eatery, known for its shabby chic decor and quirky menus (including full afternoon tea), is giving up its westend branch in favour of the late Edwardian pub, which joins the original Butterfly and Pig on Bath Street.

The southside branch will be named The Butterfly and the Pig at The Corona, and is expected to open on January 30.

Owner Michele Paglioacca (also owner of The Shed) plans to restore many of 1912 building’s original features as part of a £200,00 refurbishment programme.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted to be bringing The Butterfly and the Pig to the southside, and thrilled to be located in such an iconic building.”

Brian McMahon, chair of Shawlands Business Association, added: “The arrival is fantastic news for the town and a great boost for the local economy - I wish Michele and his team every success in this new venture.”
