CAB funding boost to help with transitions

Citizens’Advice Scotland’s Advice in Mind Project will work in partnership with NHS

Lanarkshire to proactively engage with people with mental health conditions experiencing, or vulnerable to, financial hardship.

Nine Citizens’ Advice Bureaux in North and South Lanarkshire will work in partnership, led by Motherwell and Wishaw Citizens’ Advice Bureau, with overall co-ordination provided by Citizen’s Advice Scotland.

Each client will be supported by a dedicated money and debt advisor covering welfare benefits, money and debt, and energy savings.

Advice and support will be offered one to one in clients’ homes and in healthcare and community settings.

The move was welcomed by John Wilson, MSP for Central Scotland, who submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament welcoming the funding and wishing the project every success.

He said: “Citizens’ Advice Bureau provides invaluable support and advice to many across Lanarkshire with help on matters such as employment, social security, and housing.

“I am particularly pleased to see CAB receive this grant from the Big Lottery Fund to support their Advice in Mind project.

“The project will enable CAB to support those across Lanarkshire with mental health conditions that are experiencing financial hardship.

“Many people throughout our communities deal with mental health conditions throughout their lives, and often such conditions can leave people feeling isolated and helpless.

“Therefore we must welcome this collaboration between CAB and NHS Lanarkshire and wish all those involved in the project every success with it.”
