CACE receives Lotto cash injection

A Cumbernauld organisation which promotes the welfare of older people in the town has received a cash injection of over £450,000 from the Big Lottery Investing in Communities programme.

Cumbernauld Action for Care of the Elderly (CACE) grant of £461,443 for the Older People’s Active Lives project will provide a range of activities to older people in Cumbernauld, who do not require formal day care but who may be at risk of becoming isolated in their own homes.

Pauline Carmichael, CACE’s board convenor, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this award from the Big Lottery Fund.

“CACE provides services to some of the most vulnerable and isolated older people in the area.

“Having this funding will mean that we can offer services six days a week. Activities such as shopping, games and all the things we all like to do and take for granted will be available to socially isolated older people in our area.

“The difference this will make to them is enormous and we can’t thank the Big Lottery Fund enough for supporting us with this funding.”

Maureen McGinn, of Big Lottery Fund Scotland, added: “Investing in Communities funds projects which help people in real need now, as well as projects which focus on prevention. It aims to support people at key times of change to make their lives better for the future. The groups funded, including CACE, reflect this ambition so we are delighted to award these seven projects which are making a big difference where it is needed most.”
