Calls continue for foster carers

The Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) fostering team will be at The Avenue on June 10 (9am-5pm) and at Armed Forces Day in Rouken Glen Park on June 20.

The team is also hosting a live Q&A session on Twitter (@EastRenCouncil) on June 10, allowing anyone interested in foster caring to find out more.

Foster carers are in high demand in East Renfrewshire due to a lack of placements, leading to many youngsters being fostered outwith the area.

An ERC spokeswoman said: “Being placed with the right foster carers locally will give East Ren teenagers and children the opportunity to continue with their education in the same area, keep the same circle of friends and give them the stability to thrive. There’s also a need for foster carers who can foster siblings, to keep brothers and sisters together.”

The council recently launched its campaign, with cartoon characters Kyle and Kate, to bring more families forward.

Councillor Alan Lafftery, convener for health and social care, explained: “Our existing carers feel well supported and they will help you to learn about the challenges and rewards of caring for a child who has lived in difficult circumstances. You will receive training and social workers are available at all times to offer advice and support.”
