Cameronian Conventicle takes place tomorrow

ONE of our greatest local military traditions, the annual Cameronian Conventicle, takes place at the Memorial Cairn, Douglas, from 1pm onwards tomorrow (Sunday).

The ceremony, as ever, will be preceded by a 9.30am service at St Bride’s Church in Douglas.

The Conventicle takes place on the very site of the raising of the regiment, an event which led to three centuries of service to the nation before the Cameronian (Scottish Rifles) were consigned to history with its official disbandment in 1968.

However, the regiment’s spirit and memories just would not die and the Conventicle at Douglas has been held annually to celebrate the Cams’ history and to allow old comrades to reunite for a day.

This year’s ceremony will inevitably look back 100 years to the Cams’ huge sacrifices in 1915.
