Campaign to save High Mill gathers pace

Plans to re-build the historic building were unveiled in April last year by the High Mill Steering Group, part of Carluke Development Trust.

And since the High Mill Appeal was launched in September donations have been piling in from all around the world, including from a few famous donors.

Steering Group member Christine Warren revealed that Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark, whose mother is from Carluke, and renowned criminoligist and writer Prof David Wilson have donated to the appeal with donations having topped £12,000.

The group also has three patrons. They are banker and former National Galleries of Scotland chairman Sir Angus Grossart, whose grandfather Thomas was a tailor in the town; respected businessman Sir Robin Biggam, who grew up in Langshaw Crescent, and former Scottish Premier League chairman Lex Gold, who lives in Braidwood.

The next public meeting of the High Mill Steering Group will be on Tuesday, January 20, at 7.30pm in Carluke Lifestyles Centre where any fundraising ideas will be welcome.
