Car wash will help firefighters get through hardship

We expect to see them when we need them most, but sometimes firefighters are the ones in need of support.

That is why this Saturday, March 4, Cumbernauld Fire Station will be hosting a charity car wash on behalf of the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports firefighters in need.

The event will run from 10am until 2pm and every penny raised will go to the national charity.

Founded during World War 2 to support the bereaved families of firefighters killed in Luftwaffe air raids, the Fire Fighters Charity helps emergency workers who are struggling with physical injury or illness, as well as those who have psychological problems from the life or death situations they face routinely.

To this end, the charity provides a variety of services tailored to the needs of individual people.

The charity runs an extensive rehabilitation programme to help people with both physical and psychological needs.

The charity supports more than 5,000 individuals every year, and that number increases year on year.
