Carluke Clyde Street faces weeks of roadworks

Sections of Clyde Street in Carluke will be closed from Monday, February 1, for around ten weeks to allow old gas pipes to be replaced.

Work on the £171,000 project will be carried out in three phases.

Gas distribution network SGN is replacing old, metal gas mains with new plastic (polyethylene) pipe, which has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

The essential work forms part of a mains replacement programme developed with the Health and Safety Executive.

SGN has met with South Lanarkshire Council and will continue to work with the local authority and community throughout the course of this project.

The work will be carried out in three phases to minimise disruption as much as possible.

For everyone’s safety it will be necessary to close sections of Clyde Street in stages around the work.

Phase one will start in Clyde Street on Monday 1 February and take approximately two weeks.

Clyde Street will be closed from the Maudslie Road/Moss-Side Avenue/Luggie Road roundabout to the junction with Clyde Court.

In phase two, which will last approximately four weeks, Clyde Street will be closed between the junctions with Clyde Court and Douglas Street.

During phase three, which will be the final phase of the work, Clyde Street will be closed between the junction with Douglas Street and the junction with Kirk Road. This phase will take approximately four weeks.

Local diversions will be in place and access for residents will be maintained.

SGN Team Manager Glenn Feist said: “We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and we would like to thank everyone for their patience while we complete our essential upgrade work.

“We always aim to minimise disruption. We are sorry for any inconvenience which may be caused.

“We will make every effort to ensure our works are completed as soon as possible.

“Our engineers are mindful of those people who live in the area and will try to minimise noisy activities where we can.”
