Carluke father and son run marathon for Macmillan

AFTER battling sweltering temperatures to complete last year's Edinburgh Marathon in four hours 20 minutes, Carluke's Kenny Harrison is training hard in preparation for his assault on this year's event on May 23.

Kenny (54), a senior charge nurse at Wishaw General Hospital, has over the years raised around 3000 for good causes from charity runs.

And he is determined to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Care on this, the latest in a long run of appearances at the Edinburgh Marathon.

"I've never stopped running over the winter," Kenny said."And last week I started my 16-week training programme in preparation for the Marathon.

Kenny actually works on the orthopaedic ward. But many patients have been diagnosed with the disease.

He said: "It is terrible witnessing the profound effect this

diagnosis has on the patient, their parents and friends."

Kenny, will compete for the third time alongside his 20-year-old son Alan, who is also raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care.
