Carluke Gala Day is only days away

A DECADE on from Carluke Gala Day being cancelled following its committee’s collapse, the event is once again firmly established as Carluke’s main family event of the year.

Gala chairwoman Ruby Mitchell said that 19 colourful floats and five bands were geared up to take part in a spectacular parade through the town at the 2014 staging this Saturday, June 14.

Carluke Gala Queen Claire-Jayne Rae will be crowned at the Cross at around 12.15pm, on a magnificent family day of celebration which is sure to be enjoyed by thousands of spectators.

“It is great that the interest levels in Carluke Gala Day have been restored to what they used to be like 25 years ago,” said Ruby. “I think in recent years we’ve even seen an improvement in the diversification of the types of folk coming to watch it.

“Rather than just people from Carluke spectating, we’re getting a lot of folk from outside the town coming along as well.”

Elaine Allan, mother of Gala Queen Claire-Jayne, said that the 11-year-old Crawforddyke Primary School pupil literally couldn’t wait for the big day to come around.
