Carluke High pupils celebrate Green Flag Success

CARLUKE High School pupils’ appetite for success is far from flagging – despite working extremely hard to help the school land its third consecutive Green Flag Award!

In a project lasting between 2010 and 2012, S1 to S6 youngsters built an eco garden in school grounds, did regular litter picks and supported the Fair Trade initiative. A recent presentation of their work impressed two Eco Schools assessors so much that they had no hesitation in granting the Green Flag prize.

“It is a big thrill to have won three of these Green Flags,” said Carluke High biology teacher Gillian Paterson, who is also an Eco Schools co-ordinator.

“This is recognition of the fact that our pupils are doing things to help the environment.”
