Carluke shocked at sudden death of Iain McGregor

Iain (75) and his wife Eleanor had just moved into a new home and he was hiring a van for the final run of the flitting when he collapsed last Tuesday.

“We were so happy here,” said Eleanor in the house in Oudenarde Court this week. “We were just settling in and looking forward to the future.”

Iain started life as a farmer. He was born on a farm in Glasgow, then moved to Eastlaw Farm, Carluke, in 1958.

Out with the Young Farmers, he soon met Eleanor at Lanark Palais, and they married in 1961.

Iain then spent eight years in the police force, before returning to Carluke and to managing the farm at Bushelhead. Their son Scott and daughter Elaine were born there.

When the owner died and the farm was sold, the family moved to Parkandarroch Crescent, where they had 36 happy years. Iain worked for Scottish Special Housing, then as a salesman and finally helped with newspaper deliveries.

A keen bowler, he was a past president and past secretary of the Carluke club. He was also a huge support to Eleanor in her charity work and a devoted grandfather.

Scott and his children are in Copenhagen and Elaine and her family in Glasgow.

The funeral service took place in Kirkton Church on Thursday.
