Carluke's Tom Dick celebrates his 101st birthday

Tom Dick, a resident in Milton Grange, Carluke, celebrated his 101st birthday with a surprise visit from a group of choristers from Stonehouse Male Voice Choir. Tom was a former singer in the choir.

This miniature choir performed some songs to the delight of both Tom and the residents and staff.

Tom had a lifetime in teaching, spending many years as classics teacher at Dalziel High School in Motherwell, where he was depute rector, and finally rector from 1974 until 1978.

In retirement he was an enthusiastic member of Carluke Probus Club.

Although in a nursing home now, his mind is still very sharp, and he is currently memorising large parts of the work of Robert Burns.
